The Performance
Competitions are more than just numbers on a scorecard—they are stories of resilience, learning, and growth. The Howrah Rifle Club’s June 2024 event was one such chapter in Akshara’s journey. After the Rifle issue in last competition it was event of getting confidence back. As a young 10m air rifle shooter it was important game for her. In this game She has a series of 88, 96, 92, and 90. The game tested her technical skills. It also deepened her understanding of the mental and emotional demands of the sport.
The Howrah Rifle Club is known for its spirited atmosphere and supportive community. It provided the perfect stage for athletes to showcase their progress. For Akshara, this was another opportunity to measure herself against the benchmarks she has set on her path forward. The competition brought together shooters of varying experience levels, creating an environment where every shot carried both pressure and promise.
The Series Breakdown
- First Series – 88: The opening series was a cautious start. Like many athletes, Akshara needed time to settle into rhythm, manage nerves, and align her focus. The 88 reflected the challenge of transitioning from practice to competition mode.
- Second Series – 96: This was the highlight of her match. With near perfect execution, Akshara demonstrated her ability to reset mentally and deliver precision under pressure. The 96 was a reminder of her technical capability and the strength of her training routines.
- Third Series – 92: Building on momentum, she maintained consistency. The 92 showed balance—solid grouping, steady timing, and controlled breathing. It was proof that she could sustain performance beyond a single peak.
- Fourth Series – 90: Closing the match with a 90, Akshara displayed resilience. While not as sharp as the second series, it reflected her determination to finish strong. She was trying despite fatigue and the weight of expectations.
Her aggregate score of 366/400 was a step forward in her competitive journey, marking both progress and areas for refinement.
Her Thoughts
She was happy with the performance. After last dismal performance the confidence was low. She did not manage to cross the 1st match score. But She did hit one good series. The second series of 96 boosted her confidence. Bouncing back after first series of 88 also did good for her.
All the three competitions were held within couple of months. During this time, she also went to her maternal uncle home for 15 days. There was not enough practice. The Rifle setting changes were performed as well. All in all, she was contending with the performance. This is what really matters.
My Thoughts
In this match I was unable to take any picture or video during match. I did not get right place to capture the moment. But after match I was happy to see her back with no emotion face. She was satisfied and returned with smile. After last match the only ask from my side was return with smile after match.
There was no medal hope for us. We returned home after the match. Inside she may have thought of getting one medal. As she asked for top three scores in her category. I tried to change the conversation and said one day you will get medal. Winning medal takes time and let’s not focus on one medal. We need to focus more on learning Shooting.
We returned home and just said to everyone that performance was fine. Relatives and others do ask about medals as they have unrealistic expectations. We just said it takes time and told Akshara not to worry about the same. But inside I knew she was getting bothered with these queries.
